Zayn Malik’s first single after his departure from One Direction last March is finally here!
It’s a smooth, steady and undoubtedly sexy tune that’s well on its way to the top of the charts. The crooner has been very frank about wanting his music to be different from his previous work, as well as his thoughts on being in a boy band.
“I think I always wanted to go, from like the first year, really. I never really wanted to be there, like in the band…I just gave it a go because it was there at the time, and when I realised the direction we were going in-mind the pun-with the music, I instantly realised it wasn’t for me, because I realised I couldn’t put any input in,” Zayn admitted in an interview with Zane Lowe in Apple Music’s Beats 1.
Well this new single, Pillowtalk, is definitely a statement. Just like its music video; a seductive, sultry and very artistic film featuring Malik’s current girlfriend Gigi Hadid. The former boy band member opened up about the song’s racy subject to the British Sunday Times during the initial press for his upcoming work stating, “I think I’m pretty black and white what it’s about,” he shared before commenting about the song being “so pure, so dirty and raw.”
“Everybody has sex, and it’s something people want to hear about,” Zayn continued. “It’s part of everybody’s life, a very BIG part of life! And you don’t want to sweep it under the carpet. It has to be talked about.”
Everyone’s definitely talking about his new single, but the next question is, can we expect a tour sometime in the near future?
“If there’s a demand for it (the music), I’ll tour,” Zayn stated.
I can see why he was so adamant on leaving. Pillowtalk is definitely not the style of music I can see One Direction performing, but it is a great song.
