World’s Highest Earning Musicians of 2015

Taylor Swift

Taylor SwiftThe country pop star who captured our ears and hearts with the release of Love Story in 2008 has claimed the title of the world’s highest earning musician of 2015.

Taylor Swift came out on top of Billboard’s 2015 Top Money-Makers list.

The 26-year-old earned US$73.5 million last year, with the bulk of it from her successful 1989 World Tour – which earned US$61.7 million alone.

A successful tour seems to be key for earning the big dollars as the runner up barely pulled in half of Swift’s earnings.

American country singer Kenny Chesney was second with US$39.8 million.

The Rolling Stones weren’t far behind with US$39.6 million.

And Billy Joel doesn’t seem to be slowing down as he raked in US$31.7 million last year.

Rounding out the top five was One Direction, who made US$24.2 million.

The one thing that seems to be in common with most of those who feature on the list is the majority of their earnings came from touring, with smaller gains from music sales.

However, Adele must be doing something different as she didn’t tour and made more than US$16 million in sales alone, more than anyone else on the list.
