Judge Orders Madonna and Guy Ritchie To Come To A Conclusion

Madonna & Guy Ritchie

Madonna & Guy RitchieOn Wednesday March 2, New York Supreme Court Justice Deborah Kaplan told Madonna and Guy Ritchie to come to an amicable resolution for the sake of their son Rocco.

The celebrity couple ended their eight-year marriage in 2008 and have been locked in a very public custody battle since.

Neither the 57-year-old singer nor 47-year-old director were present for the New York hearing, with Madonna calling in from New Zealand and Ritchie from London. They also did not speak throughout the proceedings.

Judge Kaplan made comments on the need to settle the dispute privately for the sake of the couple’s 15-year-old son and stated that the London school he currently attends was approved by both parents.

Madonna took the case to court in December after her son refused to return to NYC with her while spending the holidays with his father in London.

On Wednesday, Madonna’s lawyer made the argument that Ritchie’s decision not to bring Rocco back could be seen as irresponsible behaviour, stating “he taught his son that obeying court orders is not necessarily important.”

Judge Kaplan has however ruled to deny Madonna’s request to have Rocco brought back to New York and encouraged “the parents to resolve this matter in the best way possible for the child.”

The ex-couple are set to appear in court in NYC later this summer.
