Harry Potter Star Wins MMA Fight

Josh Herdman

Josh HerdmanHarry Potter star Josh Herdman has turned his back on the lights and fame of the movie set to trigger a career in cage fighting.

Herdman played Draco Malfoy’s right-hand man, Gregory Goyle in all eight of the Harry Potter films and this weekend he premiered in a London fight ring.

He went up against Polish fighter Janusz Walachowski in the Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fight and came out on top.

The 28-year-old told the Mirror he had been training in traditional Japanese jujitsu for nearly five years and had climbed his way up the ladder to achieve a shodan black belt.

“It’s raw, exciting and unpredictable. I find it more interesting than boxing although I appreciate the beauty and art in boxing. It also made sense to move onto MMA because of my jujitsu training.”

Herdman is not throwing the towel in completely on acting, except he is branching out because getting acting roles is a bit of a gamble, he said.

“I still have an agent and still go for auditions. It’s just a little bit like playing the lottery for a living.”

However, he admitted he does not plan to make a big career change anytime soon as he is passionate about acting and fighting.
