Anton Yelchin was only weeks away from directing the film he wrote when he died in an atrocious accident.

The actor, who stars in the upcoming Star Trek film, was caught in a freak accident when he left his idling car in neutral on his driveway when it rolled back and pinned him against his mailbox a week ago.

The fresh faced director-to-be was meant to start production on his crime thriller, Travis on July 11.

Callum Turner, Alia Shawkat and Milla Jovovich were signed onto star in the film, which is about an actor and amateur photograph who witnessed a murder of a young woman he followed.

“We were calling it a voyeuristic crime thriller,” producer Keith Kjarval said.

“The patient exploration of the moments where we are the most human is what Anton was interested in with this film.

“It was a deeply personal film and I’m convinced it would have been one of many films he directed.”

The movie would have spotlighted the natural talent Yelchin had, Kjarval said.

“The amount of research and photography and art that he was pouring into this film was inspiring.”

He had a passion for cinema and was known to immerse himself into the medium, at times watching two to three films a day.

Yelchin’s death led to an investigation by Jeep as to whether he had had the software updated in his car which had made it easy not to put the vehicle in park using its stationary gear shift.
