Pioneering transgender actress Alexis Arquette has died, surrounded by family, at the age of 47.
Arquette, who was born Robert, reportedly died from complications related to AIDS.
Her family released a statement.
“She passed away surrounded by love. We held her hand and sang her David Bowie’s Starman as she punched through the veil to the other side,” the family said.
“We washed her body in rose petals and surrounded her with flowers.”
The statement was posted on Facebook by Richmond Arquette and confirmed by his agent to NBC News.
They asked grieving fans to keep their flowers and instead make a donation to organizations that support the LGBTQ community.
