J.K. Rowling Surprises World with Eighth Harry Potter Book

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

Harry Potter and the Cursed ChildJ.K. Rowling has been taking die-hard Harry Potter fans on an emotional roller coaster over the past couple of months with the announcement of the sequel to her beloved series.

When the writer first announced the sequel, fans couldn’t wait to get their hands on the book. Then, it was revealed the book would be released in the form of a play. Now, Rowling has announced that the script for the play will, in fact, be released as a two-part book.

The play, titled Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will debut in London at the Palace Theatre on the day before Harry’s birthday, July 30.

The book of the same name will be released at 12:01am on July 31. Rowling’s online home base Pottermore announced the release of the book on Thursday over Twitter and the site itself.

English playwright Jack Thorne wrote the script for the play based on an original new story that Rowling wrote with Thorne and theatre director John Tiffany, which was never released.

Set 19 years after the end of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the story follows Harry’s son Albus who has to deal “with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted.”

There is also another Potter related release this year. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will hit theatres November 18, based off one of Rowling’s short companion books to the franchise.
