‘The Project’ Co-Host Waleed Aly Wins Gold Logie

Waleed Aly

Waleed AlyTelevision presenter Waleed Aly won the top prize at the TV Week Logie Awards last night.

The Project co-host was one of six personalities nominated for the Gold Logie, which is voted on by the public.

In his acceptance speech, Aly spoke powerfully about the diversity that the Gold Logie field represented.

“Each nominee brilliantly distils some separate piece of Australia and I think it’s an amazing thing that that can be assembled on this night in this way. If you step back and look at those pieces assembled, it is a truly spectacular mosaic.”

Aly’s win was just one of many special moments in an impressive telecast.

Actress and comedian Julia Morris had a spectacular fall and swore during her speech.

Veteran actress Noni Hazlehurst, best known for her role in the children’s show Play School was inducted into the Hall of Fame. She is only the second female to be inducted. The first was the late Ruth Cracknell. She gave a powerful acceptance speech in which she praised the wisdom and brilliance of children.

The ABC was the winning network with seven wins and Channel Ten won six.

Channel Seven won just four awards, and Nine won three awards.
